Thar Energy extracts oil from feedstocks such as soybeans using high-pressure vessels similar to the one pictured at right. Thar builds these vessels according to its own designs, along with the necessary pumps, heat exchangers and control devices.

Extracted oil is immediately converted to biodiesel by means of trans-esterification.

The solvent of choice in the process, carbon dioxide, is recycled. There is no significant potential for global warming. In fact, the process has important environmental benefits, among them:

  • Elimination of hexane emissions, which occurs in conventional solvent extraction of herbal oils.

  • Elimination of hazardous aqeuous and solid wastes that are also common to hexane processes.

The process is not limited to soybeans. Other feedstocks, such as canola, and jatropha, are also good candidates for biodiesel.
